Tom Banton limps out to bat after suffering twisted ankle
Injured Somerset batter battled through the pain to help his team
Banton's heroics not enough to prevent Somerset defeat
Somerset batter Tom Banton showed incredible bravery and determination by hobbling out to bat despite suffering a painful ankle injury in the County Championship match against Essex.
Banton had to be helped off the field after rolling his ankle while fielding on day one of the match, but after receiving treatment he returned to bat at number seven in Somerset's second innings.
The 24-year-old was clearly in pain, but he battled through the discomfort to score 17 runs off 29 balls, including two boundaries.
Despite Banton's heroics, Somerset were unable to avoid defeat, losing the match by an innings and 11 runs.
Banton's injury is a blow to Somerset, who are already without several key players.
However, the young batter's courage and determination will have undoubtedly inspired his team-mates.
Banton is now a doubt for Somerset's next match, which is a Vitality Blast clash against Gloucestershire on Friday.
