September 11, 2021

Cristiano Ronaldo made a dream return to Manchester United, scoring two goals in an emphatic 4-1 victory over Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Portuguese forward, who left United for Real Madrid in 2009, rejoined the club this summer and made his second debut in front of a packed Old Trafford crowd.

Ronaldo opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a close-range finish after Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman spilled Paul Pogba's shot.

United doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Bruno Fernandes curled a superb free-kick into the top corner.

Ronaldo made it 3-0 in the 45th minute with a powerful header from a Luke Shaw cross.

Newcastle pulled a goal back in the 56th minute through Javier Manquillo, but Jesse Lingard restored United's three-goal advantage in the 62nd minute.

The victory takes United up to fourth place in the Premier League table, level on points with third-placed Chelsea.
